Logical Questions to Make Them Think?
by sweet pea inthis has no doubt been covered before and if anyone has any favourite threads on this subject perhaps they could post them here .
what are your best one liners/questions to make jw's think?.
i had a heated conversation with my mum this weekend and apart from mainly going round in circles (as is often the case with brainwashed cult members) one thing made her stop and i could see that she was having major trouble processing the logic.

I pointed out that God approved of genocide and rape in the Old Testament. She predictably said that Jesus changed everything when he came but when challenged on that with "so God changed his mind about what was right and wrong then?", she paused for a long time and then admitted it didn't make sense and that she struggled with that one.
Also, in the course of the conversation I asked her what she would do if the Governing Body decided to shut down the religion. She looked at me in a "can't compute" kind of way as though it was a totally alien concept and then calmly said "well, I suppose I'd do my own thing". It felt good to put a seed in her head that life goes on without the GB . . .
Another time I plan on throwing in the "so why are there only Marsupials in Australia?" question.
Over to you . . .

France sounds like a great idea! Go to the South and make sure you get to the sea with a marina as they put on the most fantastic fireworks show - I would recommend Cannes (my mum has an apartment there if you fancy renting it out . . . ).
If you're staying at home, you could have some girlfriends over with kids for afternoon tea - make some cakes and get them to join you for your 2nd birthday. Always fun.
Come up to London for a real treat, browse Liberty's and Carnaby Street and end up at Ping Pong for some Dim Sum - drinks at the Hotel Kaminsky. Heaven.
Whatever you do, have the most wonderful day - if you decide on London, I'll come and have a drink with you!

'BELIEVE IT OR LEAVE IT' - a long time faders dilemma.
by nicolaou ini've noticed a lot of newbies aren't bothering with long fades from the wt.
good for them, perhaps this younger, more savvy generation are more comfortable sticking two fingers up to the organisation and forcing their families to make the uncomfortable decisions about associating with them.. i applaud you, you were happy to believe it or leave it.. me?
i submitted my last field service report more than 11 years ago and have been 'fading' ever since, and i'm sick of it.

Nic, it sounds like you know in your heart what you want to do. You sound tired and worn down by the constant pressure not to be your real self. Maybe it is time to let go - you successfully managed to get your most precious ones out - your wife and your children - the time has passed for you to influence the rest of your family. They must come to their own realisations in their own time.
If you do what you need to do to be completely free, there will be sadness but it will be healthier for all of you and who knows what will happen in time - you know Besty and I's story - now my mother-in-law who wanted absolutely no contact and made us feel in no uncertain times that we were worthless as people without our 'label', has come crawling back wanting contact (because of the grandchildren) and from her gestures toward reconciliation you would think nothing had ever happened between us all. We don't talk about the religion - so yes we have our elephant too, and Besty can't bring himself to have anything to do with her but I have a cordial relationship with her and our boys have a grandmother again. It's not perfect but it's working. And we all know where we stand.
You would probably earn more respect from your JW family for being completely honest with them too, even though it could be stirring up all those old painful emotions again. I suspect though you've already been through the worst of it.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

Guys!! Guys!!! Two Jehovah's Witnesses were just at my door!!
by ziddina inand of course, i had some fun with them... an older, brunette woman who obviously dyes her hair and could stand to lose a bit of weight, and a slim blonde teenage girl - probably around 15 - 17.... i started out by asking them if they knew how old the bible was.... .
(and unfortunately, i think i demonstrated that i wouldn't make a very good "undercover" bible study prospect... .
but they didn't even know how old - young - the bible was!!.

New here - hello!
by sickandtired ini can't believe i'm actually posting here.
i've been lurking for a while and i've been having doubts about this being the "truth" for years and sometimes feel really stuck and hopeless about my situation.
i'm married to an elder (who is 110% jw) and i was for the most part raised in the "truth".

Welcome! It's heart warming to see that you've had so much great advice on here. I hope you find strength and support for what will undoubtably be a tough journey in the years ahead.

Hi, new to this forum. Figured I'd let everyone know about my story before I got involved.
by JonathanH inif you just want the juicy details where i leave, i'll make disclaimer where it begins, if you just want to know what happened with the elders and organization after i realized it wasn't true, i'll mark that seperately.
we didn't do jack shit in service, or in the congregation.
maybe this was how jehovah came about?

Make mine a nice warm glass of Merlot . . .
Jonathan, thanks for sharing your story. Powerful and moving. Interesting how with some individuals something doesn't feel right about this religion from such a young age - almost like a little person was inside you knocking for so long to be set free. You made it and have come out the other side. Hopefully in time your wife will join you completely. I can't imagine how tough the last few years must've been for her emotionally and mentally whilst still under mind control.
You should think about submitting your story to Freeminds - contact Randy or Besty (aka My husband).

Astounded Newbie Here...*Waves Hello*
by mummatron inall i can say is "wow!
" in the 10 years i've been out i had no idea that forums like this existed.
a tad naive-sounding for someone with a background in it, i know, but it's taken me this long just to feel comfortable enough to type 'jw' into google.

Welcome Mummatron, isn't jwfacts incredible? It gave me my freedom after hubby helped me find it. I was a true believer with a few doubts but in three days I was astounded at how it all unravelled. We stopped going to meetings from then on and have never looked back although we didn't escape without paying the price (the loss of my husbands family).
It's great to hear that you've finally arrived at a better place in your life after all your suffering, onwards and upwards!
You'll find a great community here - enjoy your stay!

Apostates part from 2011 DC Symposium
by baltar447 ini just got through listening to the part on apostates.
.
they basically ignored any true questions or critisisms in favor of an ad hominem character attack on apostates.. they made the assertion that "apostates" are 1-prideful, 2-ingrateful, 3-impatient.. anyone that's listened care to discuss the part?.
